Credit Unions

Credit Unions are owned by and run for members with profits going into improving services or paid as dividends to members. Credit Unions can be a good way to save and may be a cheaper way to borrow smaller amounts. Loans are available to members only.

Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS)

The FSCS protect consumers when authorised financial services fail. Their helpline is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays.

Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS)

The FOS deal with complaints about financial products or services. Their consumer helpline is open 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)

Pension Wise

Pension Wise can help if you are over 50, have a personal or workplace pension and want to make sense of your options. Phone between 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday to book a phone or face to face appointment. Your appointment will last around 45 to 60 minutes and will explain your pension options, how each option is taxed and give you the next steps to take.

StepChange offer tailored advice and practical solutions to problem debt including free debt management plans. Their debt advice line is open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and Saturday 8am to 4pm.

PayPlan

PayPlan provide free Debt Management Services and access to other legal remedies such as Debt Relief Orders or Individual Voluntary Arrangements. Their debt help and advice line is open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 3pm Saturdays.

Money Advice Scotland promote free, confidential money advice and financial inclusion. They have an online tool to find an approved money adviser. Their helpline provides signposting to free confidential and independent advice on how to deal with debt problems. They are open 8:30am to 6pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am to 3:30pm Friday.

Scotland's Financial Health Service

Scotland's Financial Health Service provides free and impartial advice gateway for debt, money and planning for life events. Includes a local advice finder.

Scottish League of Credit Unions

Scottlish League of Credit Unions provides an online directory of Credit Unions in Scotland.

Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB)

AIB is Scotland's Insolvency Service. Their website has a comprehensive guide to insolvency options in Scotland, including eligibility and how to apply. Their helpline is open 9am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday.

Home Owners' Support Fund

Home Owners' Support Fund is an initiative from the Scottish Government to provide help to homeowners who are finding it difficult to pay their mortgages.
